The world rejoiced when J.K. Rowling, the author of the best-selling Harry Potter series announced that we will see more of Newt’s adventures on the big screen and we just couldn’t wait since this first film was incredibly amazing. That’s why we are sharing some facts about this recent box-office hit.

In 1926, British Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrived in New York after completing a global excursion to find extraordinary magical creatures. But then, he kind of got himself and the entire wizarding world (even the muggle world) into some kind of trouble after some of his fantastic beasts escaped from his suitcase.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them was released last November 18 and already has a gross of $680M Worldwide.

#1 – Yep, that is Capt. Jack Sparrow right there beside Newt because Johnny Depp has been cast to play the character of Gellert Grindelwald.

#2 – Warner Bros. kept this as a secret but Johnny Depp has been filming since January of 2016.

#3 – The film is set in the same year when the Dark Lord, Tom Marvolo Riddle was born.

#4 – Speaking of Tom Riddle, Eddie Redmayne who plays Newt Scamander in this film, auditioned for the role of the young Tom Riddle but was rejected the moment he said the first line.

#5 – J.K. Rowling personally wanted Eddie Redmayne to play the role of Newt Scamander.

#6 – Academy-Award winning director Alfonso Cuaron, who directed the fourth installment of the Harry Potter franchise, declined to direct its spin-off. He said in an interview

“Directing Prisoner of Azkaban was a very beautiful experience for me. I have a lot of love for that universe and I tremendously admire J.K. Rowling, but today, for the present, projects based around lots of visual effects don’t attract me. I’m coming out of a five-year process of doing visual effects and now I sort of want to clean palate of that a little bit.”

#7 – Michael Gambon, the actor who played Albus Dumbledore in six of the eight of Harry Potter movies, really wants to be a part of the spin-off. Although Jared Harris was also in the talks of playing the role his father, Richard Harris played in the first two movies of the franchise.

#8 – J.K Rowling said that there will be not just one, not just two but FOUR more films. She even released a Fantastic Beasts Textbook where the money went to charity.

#9 – The movie is set 70 years before Harry Potter’s adventures began.

#10 – Every actor that is part of this Harry Potter spin-off got a chance to design their own wands. WOW!

#11 – Not only that, the cast also took “wand classes” to actually learn how to properly hold a wand. And watched the previous Potter films to get tips.

#12 – According to Warner Bros, the second film will have less beasts and will feature more about the dark times of the wizarding world. (Meaning, when Grindelwald happened) which will be set in Paris and the UK.

#13 – If the wizarding world in the UK has Galleons, Sickles and Knuts for money. In United States of America, they have Dragots which is like $ but with a D.

#14 – In his guesting at The Tonight’s Show with Jimmy Fallon, Eddie Redmayne said that he was surprised when he saw on the script that he had to seduce a certain magical creature with a “mating dance” which he choreographed and even taught Fallon.

“There’s this scene which just goes ‘Newt performs mating dance. Two words have never filled me with so much sweat”

#15 – Redmayne also trained with real-life zookeepers and animal handlers.

# 16 – None of the scenes in Fantastic Beasts are actually set in New York. It was all set in the UK.

#18 – Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who played Harry Potter got jealous of Eddie Redmayne’s costume and said in an interview I got jeans and a zip top of 10 years and you’ve got a great coat already.”

#19 – Radcliffe also disses Redmayne’s wand saying “This seems a little smoother and I don’t know how I feel about this silver bit at the end. I prefer mine, mine’s sort of rough huge tree…What is this IKEA?”

#20 – In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the name Newt Scamander was seen in the Marauder’s Map indicating that he is still alive up to this date.
